The NYC Cooking Club Story

Welcome to NYC Cooking Club! Founded in its current form by Lisa Spodak and Nick Favia, our journey began in Lisa's apartment as a humble cooking club. It was a place where friends gathered to share recipes, laughter, and the fun of cooking together. However, when COVID-19 struck, we had to adapt. The need to maintain connections while ensuring safety led us to pivot to a full-on delivery service.

Today, our primary focus is on providing delicious, high-protein food right to your doorstep. Our evolution from a cozy weekly gathering to a full-fledged delivery service was driven by the challenges of the pandemic, but it has allowed us to reach more people than ever before. We pride ourselves on crafting meals that not only delight your taste buds and help you meet your nutrition goals, but also bring a sense of community and warmth to your dining table.

We want you to feel like part of the club even if you never set food in our kitchen!

For those who miss the old days of our cooking club or are new to the club and bummed they missed the old days, we have exciting news! You can still come cook with us! We’re in a professional kitchen now (Entrepreneur Space in Astoria), but we’re still able to offer the chance for members old and new to roll up their sleeves, learn new recipes, and enjoy the camaraderie that comes with cooking and eating together (we usually go out for a late night dinner after our Thursday night shift :)).

Our cooking shifts are a tribute to our roots – an experience filled with fun, learning, and of course, great food. Whether you're a seasoned cook or just starting out, these sessions are a perfect way to connect with others who share your passion for food.

So, whether you're looking for the convenience of a meal delivered to your home or the joy of cooking with friends in a communal setting, NYC Cooking Club has something for everyone. Join us as we continue to celebrate the love of food and community, one meal at a time. Welcome to our club, where every dish tells a story of resilience, adaptation, and the enduring power of good food and great company. (Wanna learn more about cooking with us? Click here.)

About Lisa

Lisa started Cooking Club in October 2013. It began with a Facebook post in a Mark Fisher Fitness group inviting people who were overwhelmed at the thought of cooking to meet their macro needs to come together and get it done. Three strangers showed up to her apartment and went home with high-protein options to get them through the week. Seven years later, Cooking Club has a Facebook group with 900+ members, has seen hundreds of people come together to cook, and is delivering food to approximately 20 people a week. Over the years, Lisa managed all aspects of Cooking Club. She likes to say that her super power is adding protein to any recipe and making it super simple to make.

About Nick

Nick joined the Cooking Club team in 2020. He’s a small business owner with an Acupuncture practice and experience in the food industry. Nick is an innovator. He loves coming up with new recipes and changing old ones to keep them fresh and keep customers interested. Nick was also the catalyst to convince Lisa to revive Cooking Club after it was dormant for 6 months due to the pandemic and focus solely on home delivery.
