Come cook with us!!
(tl:dr Sign up to cook with us here!)
NYC Cooking Club originally started as an actual club back in 2013... 3-10 of us would meet in my apartment in Queens to meal prep together -- focusing on high protein, lower fat, lower carb options to fuel our Mark Fisher Fitness workouts.
Over time, we started accommodating people who wanted the food without the participation... their willingness to contribute more towards groceries and saving time subsidized the people who showed up so their sweat equity became more valuable and their grocery bill became smaller. :)
At the beginning of the pandemic, we temporarily had to shift to delivery only, as we couldn't bring people together to cook in a small kitchen. But now we've gone legit, incorporated, and cook in a professional kitchen.... and brought back the club aspect!
The balance has shifted... most of our cooking is for folks (from the gym and not!) who simply order off the website; but, every week, we've also got people who come cook with us -- to hone their skills, play in a professional kitchen, make new friends, and take home free food.
We cook most Thursdays from 4:00 PM to 11:30 PM and you can come join us for the whole shift or part of it. For every hour you cook, you'll get $20 in credit toward food to take home. There are also random servings of food and unused groceries up for grabs at the end of the shift and about once a month we take the team out to dinner after.
A few details:
- Our kitchen (Entrepreneur Space) is in Astoria/Long Island City at 3649 36th Street. We cook on Thursdays from 4:00 PM to 11:30 pm.
- If you are not at the kitchen at the end of the shift, you can either pick up your food from the kitchen in the days following cooking or pay $9.99 for delivery by our service on Friday.
- You do not have to commit to the whole time! You can sign up for as little as 2 hours or as much as the whole shift.
- You do NOT have to be a good cook to come to Cooking Club! We'll find you tasks that fit your skills and hopefully teach you some new stuff! We also have a lot of weighing and packing and cleaning to do.
